Illingworth Rounds out Top Three
The USSRA has released its lastest USA Men's rankings and "Grand Prix" point standings for August, 2005. Preston Quick holds on to the USA #1 ranking position, while Michael Puertas keeps his hold on the top of the Grand Prix table, the point system used to select the National Team. Meanwhile, Julian Illingworth, the winner at the March's US Nationals, continues to round out the top three. Illingworth is second in the all-important Grand Prix ratings, while staying at #3 in the National Rankings. Christoper Gordon, a regular on the PSA satellite tour, holds down the #4 ranking and #5 Grand Prix position. After some eight months of this dual ranking system, the separate rankings and Grand Prix standings, both issued by the USSRA, continue to create a confusing situation, as they have led to divergent results amongst the top 10 players. Meanwhile, the second ten continues to be very fluid, attesting to the strengthening depth-of-field in the USA men's national scene. Gilly Lane and Thad Roberts make their first appearance in the top 20. The USSRA rankings are issued by the USSRA rankings committee and include US citizens only.
