WORLD SQUASH NEWS Fitz-Gerald Extends World No1 Lead Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald has extended her lead at the top of the new February Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (1st February) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).

The four-times world champion claimed her 50th title in her 80th final on the WISPA World Tour last month when she swept through the Hartford Open in Connecticut, USA, dropping only one game in the final against former compatriot Carol Owens. Owens, now representing New Zealand, went on to lift the Southport Open title five days after the Hartford final - and has narrowed the gap behind fellow New Zealander Leilani Joyce at No2.

Joyce, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in December, is unlikely to back on the WISPA Tour until the latter part of the year. While Dutch champion Vanessa Atkinson moves up one place to return to the world top ten, England's US-based Natalie Pohrer has been rewarded for her success in last month's Comcast Open at the CHASS club in Philadelphia with a four-place rise to No13. Outside the top twenty, South Africa's Annelize Naude celebrates a career-high 23 position in the new list, while Malaysia's Sharon Wee makes her top thirty debut at 30.
