Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald, who will be back in action next week at the British Open after a calf injury, retains her lead at the top of the new April Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (1st April) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA). Carol Owens, winner of three events this year in the absence of Fitz-Gerald, regains the #2 position that she held through October of last year. Leilani Joyce, who is suffering an extended injury sabattical due to an achilles injury, continues her downward spiral, as she surrendered her #2 spot to countrywoman Owens. Also notable in this month's rankings is Natalie Pohrer's rise back into the top ten on the back of strong performances throughout this spring. Meanwhile, Fiona Geaves, who this week lost to #13 Natalie Grinham in Hurghada, falls out of the top five. Also, Omneya Abdel Kawy, precocious Egyptian star, makes her debut in the top 20, giving Egypt once more a place in the elite top twenty. Among the USA athletes, Dana Betts (62), Meredith Quick (65) and Runa Reta (78), all three of whom have recently attacked the WISPA tour in earnest, all were rewarded with strong surges in their rankings. 1 [1] Sarah Fitz-Gerald AUS
