Sarah Fitz-Gerald has extended her lead at the top of the new May Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (30th April) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA), after winning her second successive British Open title earlier this month.

The four-times world champion from Melbourne competed in her 16th successive British Open after a month layoff due to a calf injury. The world No1 clinched the title without conceding a single game - then consolidated her status by retaining the World Grand Prix Finals title in Qatar last week. New Zealanders Carol Owens, a British Open quarter-final casualty, and Leilani Joyce, still recovering from an Achilles rupture, retain their second and third place, respectively.

England's Natalie Pohrer leaps four places to No5 after winning the Hurghada International in Egypt. The 24-year-old, originally from South Africa but now based in St Louis, USA, has enjoyed an impressive WISPA World Tour run since taking six months off last year. Unseeded, Pohrer claimed the Hurghada title after beating both Carol Owens and compatriot Cassie Campion, the world No4.

Dutch No1 Vanessa Atkinson celebrates a career-high world No9 position in the new list after securing a semi-final berth in the British Open. England's Tania Bailey, who reached the British Open final for the first time as the 15th seed, rises four places to No11.

A notable absentee from the world top ten is England's Suzanne Horner. The drop to No12 marks the end of a remarkable unbroken reign in the top ten by the 39-year-old from Yorkshire since September 1992.
