Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald celebrates an uninterrupted year as world No1 in the new September Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (3 September) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).

The four-times world champion from Melbourne tops the seedings at this month's French Open in her first WISPA World Tour event since claiming the Commonwealth Games gold medal in England last month.

Fitz-Gerald, who first topped the world rankings in November 1996, has dominated the women's game since recovering from two knee operations. Since re-claiming the world No1 position in October last year, the Australian has seen her WISPA title haul exceed the 57 won by her great Australian rival Michelle Martin, and has now won 54 successive matches without defeat.

New Zealand's Carol Owens, Commonwealth Games silver medallist, has strengthened her position as world No2 since winning last week's Head Malaysian Open. While England's Cassie Jackman holds onto the No3 slot, US-based compatriot Natalie Pohrer rises to a career-high-equalling world No4.

Dutch No1 Vanessa Atkinson celebrates a career-high No6 ranking in the new list after reaching the semi-finals of both the Singapore and Malaysian Opens last month. Former South African Annelize Naude, the Amsterdam-based world No22, becomes the Netherlands' second highest world ranked player after switching nationalities in August.
