Bailey and MacFie Clash while Maha Zein gives me a tough battle in the 2nd round
May 10 2002 San Francisco

My match tonight at the Bay Club was full of fun and surprises. Maha Zein came out hitting nicks from all over the court and made plenty of great retreives also.

Her play was much improved against me over her desultory play in her loss to Natlaie Pohrer in Salt Lake.

Tania Bailey had a battle with Senga MacFie with the usual funny antics from Senga (talking to herself, walking around the court, hitting herself with the racquet.) But there were plenty of more serious clashes at the front as Senga felt she didn't get clearance to go to the ball from Tania.

Tania had to fight back from 6-2 down in the 2nd which took the wind out of Sengas sails.

Mel Jans had a little bit of an up and down match but certainly gave Jenny Tranfield a run for her money.

After losing the first 10-8 Mel seemed to lose her momentum before regaining it again in the 3rd to win 10-9.

Jenny uped the pace after losing the third and her fitness carried her through.

I Can't comment on the last match as I haven't seen it — I'm back at the hotel resting for tomorrow. Steph certainly looked a little stressed and was breathing heavy after the 2nd.

I do know Annalise was looking forward to the mathc and fancied her chances.
