Vanessa Will Offer a Strong Challenge

Fitz-Gerald outpaces Macree

I had to be sharp today to earn a win over Becky Macree. She came out with a strong offence and was very focused, retrieving some of my best shots. I volleyed well but with such a bouncey court it was difficult to find good length. I reached my 86th WISPA final appearance after a 9-5 9-3 9-6 victory.

Vanessa Atkinson outplayed Fiona Geaves. Vanessa produced excellent drops to the front at the same time that she placed Fiona under preseure in the back. Fiona seemed disappointed after the match. She had lost to Vanessa in a tough 5 during the recent British Open and no doubt was hoping for another good run and a reversal of the British Open Result.

I am looking forward to playing Vanessa as she talented and certainly a future prospect. I know I have my work cut out for me today, but I am gearing up for the challenge.

RESULTS: Bright Lights Women's Las Vegas Squash Open, Las Vegas, USA

[1] Sarah Fitz-Gerald (AUS) bt [4] Rebecca Macree (ENG) 9-5, 9-3, 9-6
[3] Vanessa Atkinson (NED) bt [2] Fiona Geaves (ENG) 9-7, 9-6, 9-4
