Jans Jumps To San Francisco Challenge
A week after losing her title in the Canadian National championships, Melanie Jans, world # 35, rediscovered her form in the SportKit Women's International Squash Challenge in San Francisco, USA, when she scored a minor upset over world # 27 Latasha Khan, from Seattle, USA, 9-7 9-2 9-2 in the first round.

Jans, 28, from Toronto, now meets England's 4th seed Jenny Tranfield who defeated compatriot Vicky Lankester, a qualifier, 9-4 9-1 9-2.

Latasha, who also lost in the first round last week in Salt Lake City, now will be looking to regroup next week in Las Vegas, where she faces highly regarded Fiona Geaves in the first round. Khan will want to be on the upswing before her first of two appearances in her hometown, Seattle, where she will participate in the US Women's Selections after the upcoming WISPA event.

Top seed Sarah Fitz-Gerald, the four-times world champion from Australia, cruised to a 9-1 9-0 9-3 victory over English qualifier Jenny Duncalf to claim her 36th successive match victory on the WISPA World Tour since last being beaten in August last year. Meanwhile, in the other half of the draw, Tania Bailey and Stephanie Brind from England both advanced towards a likely semi-final meeting.
