Owens handles Campion

Independent Squash News by Sarah Fitz-Gerald © 2001 Squashtalk

[Seattle WISPA Draw]

OWENS SHARP IN DISPATCHING CAMPION
Carol Owens came motivated and prepared for her match against Cassie Campion. She kept the initiative and played strongly, defeating her 3-0. Campion showed in the last three weeks that she still needs to find fitness and regain her speed moving to the front.

BUMPING AND ARGUING
Bailey won a tough match against qualifier Tranfield. After establishing a winning pattern, she then seemed to get a little panicky in the fourth after leading 8-4. She struggled from their, letting Tranfield tie her but then she closed the match out 10-8 and after a controversial and tough referring decision on match ball.

Suzanne Horner won in 5 over fellow Englishman Rebecca Macree in another controversial match. As in all of Macree's matches there was referring decisions and a lot of collisions and bumping of players.

My match was pretty straight forward and a repeat of my recent wins over Stephanie Brind - 3-0 and fairly comfortable.

Rachael Grinham style of play was too hard for Vanessa Atkinson to control as Grinham chopped the ball short forcing Atkinson to retrieve constantly. Vanessa ended up chasing and popping the ball up for Grinham to put away.

NICOL DAVID LOOKS IMPRESSIVE
Young Nicol David played the match of her short career in seniors and took a game from Linda Charman-Smtih World No 4. Everyone was very impressed with Nicol's attitude and play. The young pro from Malaysia seems to be improving every match she plays.

Geaves proved too strong for the only American and the organiser in the main draw with a comfortable win over Shabana Khan.
